Manatee County Commissioners to Address Housing, Infrastructure, and Public Safety at April 7 Meeting
The Manatee County Board of County Commissioners will convene for its regular meeting on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, beginning at 9:00 a.m., with a full agenda covering community initiatives, infrastructure improvements, housing programs, and public safety matters.
The meeting will open with standard proceedings, including an invocation led by Pastor Mark Gibbens of Mill Creek Baptist Church and the Pledge of Allegiance led by U.S. Marine Corps LCpl Cameron Lochner, who also serves as a Manatee County Senior Veterans Services Counselor.
Commissioners will recognize community contributions and county employees during the awards and proclamations portion of the meeting. Highlights include recognition of Dylan Rawley and Scouts from Troop 146 for their Flag Retirement Project, as well as Team Member of the Month honors for March and April. Several proclamations are scheduled, including Child Abuse Prevention Month, Donate Life Month, Water Conservation Month, and World Health Day.
The consent agenda features a wide range of administrative and operational items. Among them are grant acceptance for a $350,000 housing-related project at Under One Roof Gateway South, renewal of flood insurance policies for county properties, and approval of a revenue bond issuance of up to $50 million to support Waste Pro USA, Inc. projects related to solid waste operations. Additional items include infrastructure upgrades such as bridge rehabilitations, watermain replacements, stormwater improvements, and reclaimed water system enhancements.
Public safety and community services items include an agreement supporting opioid impact services through the School District of Manatee County and traffic safety measures such as the installation of multi-way stops and speed humps in several neighborhoods.
During the regular agenda, commissioners are expected to consider appointments to the Animal Services Advisory Board, an agreement for economic development activities with the Bradenton Area Economic Development Corporation, and updates on federal disaster recovery funding through the Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery program.
Additional discussion items include a proposed bulk waste pilot program, a potential agreement for homelessness services at a property on 12th Street Court East in Bradenton, and reports addressing transportation concerns, such as commercial vehicle activity along 37th Street East.
Commissioner agenda items include discussions on animal services operations, roadway conditions in the River Club community, environmental compliance staffing within the Myakka River Basin, federal and state regulatory coordination on wetlands, alignment of county grantmaking with federal immigration law, and the renewal of the County Administrator’s contract.
Public comment periods are scheduled throughout the meeting, providing residents with opportunities to address the board on both consent agenda items and future considerations. The meeting will conclude with reports and comments from the county attorney, administrator, and commissioners before adjournment.
