Manatee County Commissioners to Vote on a Wide Range of Budget, Environmental, and Community Items September 16
The Manatee County Board of County Commissioners will meet on Tuesday, September 16, at 9 a.m. for its regular session, with an agenda that includes votes on nonprofit funding allocations, environmental initiatives, infrastructure improvements, and community services.
Commissioners will begin with proclamations recognizing POW/MIA Recognition Day and Suicide Prevention Day before turning to a lengthy consent agenda. Among the items up for approval are authorizations for the Supervisor of Elections to purchase new voting equipment, renewals of county insurance policies, and settlement considerations in pending litigation.
Key financial measures include the adoption of multiple budget amendments, the issuance of Limited General Obligation Bonds for conservation and parks projects, and a funding agreement with Solutions to Avoid Red Tide, Inc. for red tide education and research. The board will also consider additional funding for public relations services and fencing installations, as well as a performance savings contract tied to methane gas at the Lena Road Landfill.
Environmental and public works items are also featured prominently. Commissioners will vote on a long-range beach erosion control plan, multiple Florida Department of Environmental Protection grants for Anna Maria Island beach nourishment and shoreline protection, and agreements to support rural infrastructure projects in Myakka City. Property acquisitions and easements tied to Moccasin Wallow Road improvements are also on the agenda.
The Public Safety Department is seeking approval of resolutions related to emergency medical funding and fire district renewals, as well as an agreement for law enforcement services at Manatee Public Beach. Additionally, landfill tipping fee waivers for the Egmont Key and Suncoast Reef & Beach cleanups are scheduled for consideration.
Later in the meeting, commissioners will conduct public hearings on ordinances and resolutions related to the expansion of the Palm Aire Municipal Service Taxing Unit and the vacation of utility easements.
Major regular agenda items include approval of nonprofit funding recommendations for children’s services and health and human services in the upcoming fiscal year, appointments to the Children’s Services Advisory Board, and a reimbursement agreement for economic development activities. Commissioners will also appoint a citizen representative to the Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Citizen Advisory Committee.
Finally, commissioner-led agenda items include discussion of terminating a shrub maintenance contract in Wallingford subdivision, drafting a resolution to name Mixon Park, and considering a protection overlay for the Myakka River.
The meeting will take place in the first-floor chambers of the Manatee County Administrative Center in downtown Bradenton and is open to the public.
