Manatee County Detectives Seek Suspect in Deadly U.S. 41 Drive-By Shooting
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect connected to a deadly drive-by shooting that occurred on March 8 along U.S. 41 in Bradenton.
Authorities are searching for Maurice McCary, 35, of Bradenton, who is wanted on a charge of second-degree murder in the death of 27-year-old Jamari Murray-Barnes. Investigators say additional charges are expected in connection with the shooting of 22-year-old De’Ryan Lopez, who was injured during the same incident.
According to detectives, Murray-Barnes and Lopez were stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of 14th Street West and 53rd Avenue West when McCary allegedly pulled his vehicle alongside theirs and fired multiple shots into the car. Murray-Barnes suffered fatal injuries, while Lopez was wounded.
Investigators believe the shooting may have been connected to an altercation involving the men at a local bar two days earlier, on March 6.
McCary is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing approximately 175 pounds. He is also known by the street name “D’Low.”
A reward of up to $9,500 may be available for information that leads to McCary’s arrest. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office at 941-747-3011.
