Manatee County Events Offer Arts, Family Fun and Community Activities Aug. 11-17
Residents looking for something to do this week can choose from community meetings, live theater, local history, art, family activities and special events across Manatee County from Aug. 11 through Aug. 17.
Here are some of the events scheduled throughout the county:
Tuesday, Aug. 11 — Parrish Community Discussion
The Parrish Civic Association will host a community discussion from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Parrish High School, 7505 Fort Hamer Road. Residents are invited to provide input on projects being considered for the Parrish community, including a community garden, community center and beautification efforts. Organizers are also seeking ideas for other projects residents would like to see pursued.
Wednesday, Aug. 12 — Baseball in Paradise Book Signing and Discussion
Author Pasquale Carlucci will discuss his book, Baseball in Paradise: A Century of Spring Training in Bradenton, Florida, during a free event featuring presentations at 2 and 4 p.m. The program will explore baseball history on Anna Maria Island and throughout the Bradenton area. A meet-and-greet and book signing are also planned, with copies of the book available for purchase at the event.
Thursday, Aug. 13 — Paws & Pints in Parrish
Dogs Inc. will bring puppies and local volunteer puppy raisers to Good Liquid Brewing Co., 8980 U.S. 301, Unit 138, in Parrish from 6 to 8 p.m. Paws & Pints gives attendees an opportunity to learn about raising puppies that are being prepared for careers as guide and service dogs.
Thursday, Aug. 13 — Live From the Academy Telethon
The Academy at Glengary and Academy at Bradenton will hold their eighth annual Live From the Academy Telethon online from 7 to 8 p.m., with a slideshow countdown beginning at 6:30 p.m. The program will highlight mental health recovery and the work of the Academy programs.
Through Sunday, Aug. 16 — FAME The Musical
The Manatee Performing Arts Center continues its production of FAME The Musical through Sunday, Aug. 16, in Stone Hall at 502 Third Ave. W. in Bradenton. The musical follows young performers pursuing their ambitions while navigating the challenges of artistic training and growing up.
Saturday, Aug. 15 — Big Art Blow Out
The Herrig Center for the Arts, 888 Third Ave. W. in Bradenton, will hold its Big Art Blow Out from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Original artwork by local artists in a variety of media will be available, with nothing priced over $100.
Saturday, Aug. 15 — Teaching Kids to Fish
T3 F Inc. will host a youth fishing event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Green Bridge Fishing Pier in Palmetto. Children will receive hands-on instruction in fishing basics and pier safety before putting their new skills to use. The program also includes prizes and recognition.
Saturday, Aug. 15 — Third Saturday Market in the Village of the Arts
Bradenton’s Village of the Arts will host its Third Saturday Market from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can explore galleries, meet local artists and shop for handmade items and other unique finds while supporting businesses throughout the Village.
Saturday, Aug. 15 — Bradenton Sandbag and Water Distribution
The City of Bradenton will hold a hurricane preparedness distribution from 8 a.m. to noon at 1706 Ninth St. E. Residents can receive up to 10 filled sandbags, two cases of water and a tarp while supplies last.
Sunday, Aug. 16 — Parrish Park Summerfest
Parrish Park Summerfest will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 7505 Fort Hamer Road. The free community event will feature kids’ water activities, bounce houses, arts and crafts, a live DJ, raffles and prizes, local businesses and food trucks. The event is presented with participation from the Parrish Civic Association, Parrish Area Business Alliance and Manatee County.
With activities ranging from local history and the arts to hurricane preparedness and family entertainment, the week offers opportunities for residents of all ages to get involved in the Manatee County community.
