The Manatee County Historical Commission is accepting nominations for its inaugural Manatee County Preservation and Heritage Awards, recognizing individuals, students, businesses and organizations that contribute to preserving and celebrating the county’s history.
The awards ceremony will be held Saturday, Oct. 24, from noon to 2 p.m. at Manatee Village Historical Park, 1404 Manatee Ave. E. in Bradenton.
Award categories include recognition for students who demonstrate an appreciation for Manatee County history and connections between the past and present, as well as honors for builders or developers whose projects preserve the historic character of the community.
Additional categories recognize individuals who have made significant contributions to historic preservation, authors who have documented important local historical events or figures, and small business owners who contribute to local preservation efforts.
The Historical Commission is currently accepting nominations, with submissions due by Sept. 25.
The Oct. 24 ceremony will mark the first year for the Manatee County Preservation and Heritage Awards and will be hosted by the Manatee County Historical Commission at Manatee Village Historical Park.
