Manatee County Invites Residents to Join 2026 Neighborhood Ambassador Academy
Manatee County residents will have two opportunities in 2026 to gain insight into local government through the Neighborhood Ambassador Citizens Academy, a free 12-week civic education program designed to help participants better understand how county government operates and how decisions impact their communities.
The academy provides an in-depth examination of county departments and services through a series of interactive sessions, presentations, tours, and hands-on activities. Led by subject-matter experts from across county government, the program guides participants through day-to-day operations, long-range planning, budgeting, and the challenges and opportunities facing a rapidly growing community. Attendees also gain a clearer understanding of how policies are developed and implemented, and are provided with structured opportunities to offer feedback and share their perspectives as engaged residents.
The 2026 schedule includes two cycles. A Winter Cycle will run from January 7 through March 25, with weekly Wednesday morning sessions from 9 a.m. to noon that include facility tours. A Summer Cycle will run from May 12 through July 28, with weekly Tuesday afternoon sessions from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. that do not include tours. Sessions will be held at various county locations, and participants are responsible for their own transportation. A detailed class schedule, including times and sites, will be provided upon acceptance into the program, and all dates and locations remain subject to change.
Enrollment is limited, and interested residents are encouraged to register early at mymanatee.org/ca. For more information about the Neighborhood Ambassador Citizens Academy, residents can contact program coordinator Laura Ruiz by email at laura.ruiz@mymanatee.org or by phone at 941-748-4501, extension 6929.
