A 5-year-old Manatee County kindergartner is hoping to turn his superhero dreams into reality through a national competition inspired by legendary comic book creator Stan Lee.
Remy is competing in the Stan Lee’s Super Kid Contest for an opportunity to become a character in a special comic book. The competition celebrates children and the qualities that make them superheroes in their everyday lives.
While Remy’s favorite superhero is currently Iron Man, his mother believes he already possesses a special power of his own: making others feel loved and appreciated. She describes him as a confident and caring young boy who continues to make his family proud as he grows and develops his own personality.
The contest is associated with the Stan Lee Foundation, an organization established to honor the legacy of the Marvel Comics icon and promote causes important to him, particularly literacy, creativity, and storytelling.
The foundation supports the narrative arts through traditional literature, comic books, and popular culture. Its initiatives include efforts focused on early literacy, scholarships, and mentorship opportunities for aspiring young writers.
The organization also supports charitable initiatives, including The Hero Initiative, which provides emergency financial assistance to veteran comic book creators experiencing medical or financial hardships. Other supported organizations include the Comic-Con Museum and the Museum of Pop Culture.
For Remy and his family, the competition offers an opportunity to celebrate the young kindergartner’s personality while potentially seeing him immortalized as a comic book character.
Community members interested in supporting Remy can cast their votes through his official contest page.
Voting closes Thursday, October 22, at 10 p.m.
