Manatee County Launches First ADApt & Play Expo with Inclusive Sports and Resources
Manatee County hosted its first-ever ADApt & Play Expo on September 6 at the John Marble Recreation Center, welcoming residents of all ages and abilities for a day of adaptive sports and community connection.
The event highlighted the importance of accessible recreation by featuring interactive activities such as wheelchair basketball with Hillsborough County’s Strongdogs team, adaptive pickleball, tennis, and inclusive soccer drills. Attendees also had the opportunity to explore demonstrations, connect with local organizations, and take part in sensory-friendly activities designed to ensure a welcoming environment for everyone.
In addition to the sports and games, resource providers shared information on programs and services that support individuals with disabilities and their families. The day encouraged participants to try new experiences, discover community partnerships, and celebrate the role of recreation in promoting health, inclusion, and belonging.
The ADApt & Play Expo marks an important milestone in Manatee County’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion. Organizers plan for the event to grow in the years ahead, further expanding opportunities for residents to engage in adaptive sports and inclusive activities.
