Manatee County Man Claims Self-Defense in Deadly Parking Lot Shooting
A Manatee County man accused of fatally shooting another man following a car accident in July is claiming self-defense in the incident that led to his arrest.
The shooting occurred on the night of July 10 in the parking lot of the Oneco Rose Bar off Cortez Road. Authorities say the confrontation began as an argument between 27-year-old Jordan Glanz and 49-year-old Deondrick Anderson after their vehicles collided.
According to reports, tensions escalated when Anderson, described as displaying a hostile and aggressive demeanor, loudly demanded Glanz’s insurance information in front of a gathering crowd. Witnesses recalled hearing statements from bystanders that contributed to the charged atmosphere.
As the situation intensified, authorities say Anderson physically assaulted Glanz, who was still seated in his vehicle, striking him multiple times. Fearing for his life, Glanz drew a firearm and shot Anderson once before fleeing the scene. Shortly after, Glanz contacted 911 to seek medical assistance and report the incident.
Anderson was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Initially charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, Glanz’s charges were upgraded to second-degree murder following Anderson’s death. The case remains under investigation as authorities review witness statements and additional evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
