Manatee County Opens Additional Cold-Weather Shelters Ahead of Frigid Temperatures
Manatee County officials announced expanded cold-weather shelter options as frigid overnight temperatures are expected tonight and Friday, urging residents to share the information with anyone who may need a safe, warm place to stay.
Additional shelter space will be available at The Salvation Army, located at 1204 14th St. W. in Bradenton. Check-in begins at 6 p.m. tonight, Thursday, Jan. 15, and continues Friday, Jan. 16.
Women-only shelter services will also be available at Under One Roof, 407 57th Ave. E. in Bradenton. Doors will open at 2:45 p.m., earlier than the facility’s normal 3 p.m. check-in time, to accommodate the cold conditions.
To assist with access, Manatee County Area Transit will provide transportation from Turning Points to Under One Roof, located at 701 17th Ave. W. in Bradenton. Transportation will begin at 2:30 p.m.
Turning Points will remain open during the cold weather to offer warmth and coffee, providing additional daytime relief for individuals experiencing homelessness.
County officials encourage the community to help spread the word as temperatures drop, emphasizing that these expanded services are intended to protect vulnerable residents during the cold snap.
