Manatee County Opens Public Comment Period on Proposed HUD Funding Amendments
Manatee County has announced a public hearing and comment period for substantial amendments to its multi-year Consolidated Plan and several Annual Action Plans, part of the county’s required reporting and planning process with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The proposed amendments outline changes to projects previously approved to support low- and moderate-income residents. These projects include shelter rehabilitation, rental assistance programs, and initiatives to expand affordable housing opportunities throughout the community.
The formal public comment period has begun and will remain open for 30 days, concluding on January 28, 2026. During this time, residents are encouraged to review the proposed amendments and submit feedback for consideration before final action is taken.
The amendments address updates to the county’s 2019/20, 2023/24, and 2024/25 Annual Action Plans. Summaries of the proposed changes and related documentation are available for public review. Physical copies of the materials may be accessed at designated county locations, including the Community and Veterans Services Department and select Manatee County library branches.
To further gather public input, a public hearing before the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners is scheduled for January 27, 2026. The hearing will be held at the Manatee County Administration Building beginning at 9 a.m., or as soon thereafter as the agenda permits. During the meeting, commissioners will review the proposed use of federal funds and the associated budgets.
The county also noted that individuals wishing to appeal any decision made by the Board must ensure a verbatim record of the proceedings is created, as required under Florida law, to support the basis of any appeal.
Manatee County reaffirmed its commitment to non-discrimination and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, emphasizing equal access and participation in public hearings. Residents requiring reasonable accommodations for the meeting are encouraged to contact the county in advance using the information provided in the public notice.
