Manatee County Permanently Preserves 1,483 Acres of Agricultural Land
On January 27, the Manatee Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to permanently protect 1,483 acres of agricultural land from future development, marking a significant investment in the county’s long-term environmental and agricultural future.
The conservation effort includes 438 acres at Mossy Island Ranch and 1,045 acres at Thundercloud Ranch. Through a partnership with the State of Florida, these properties will remain dedicated to agricultural use and natural preservation in perpetuity.
County officials said the decision safeguards working lands that support local farmers while also protecting wildlife habitat and open space. Preserving these large tracts helps maintain the rural character of Manatee County and supports sustainable land use as growth continues across the region.
The agreement ensures the land will continue to provide environmental benefits, including groundwater recharge, wildlife corridors, and protection of native ecosystems, while also contributing to the county’s agricultural economy.
Commissioners emphasized that preserving land today is an investment in future generations, ensuring that Manatee County’s natural and agricultural resources remain a defining part of the community for decades to come.

Just where are these properties?
We need to stop all new construction until the infrastructure improvements are fully funded. Give public works something to do.
