Manatee County Prepares to Launch Hurricane Recovery Applications as Lasting Manatee Program Moves Forward
One year after a series of destructive hurricanes swept through the region, Manatee County is continuing long-term rebuilding efforts through its Lasting Manatee program, funded in part by a $250,000 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant. County officials say the next significant milestone is approaching: the opening of homeowner recovery applications in early 2026.
The program will offer a limited 30-day window for residents seeking assistance to rebuild or replace homes damaged in the 2024 storms. Once the application period ends, no additional submissions will be accepted. The timeline is designed to ensure that funding is distributed efficiently and in accordance with federal requirements.
The initiative aims to address the unmet repair needs of homeowners whose properties were damaged during the hurricanes. Eligibility will be based on household characteristics, including income levels and the number of residents in the home. County officials noted that homeowners with insurance are still encouraged to apply, as the program can help cover repair costs not fully reimbursed by insurance providers.
Lasting Manatee staff emphasized the importance of ensuring residents stay informed ahead of the application window. The county has launched a website, LastingManatee.org, which includes program details, fact sheets, frequently asked questions, and links to email notifications. Officials said the email list will serve as the primary alert system once the application period officially opens.
The site also features an outreach survey that allows residents to share program information with neighborhood groups, faith organizations, and homeowner associations to ensure assistance reaches as many eligible households as possible.
As the county continues navigating long-term recovery efforts, officials say the focus remains on helping families rebuild and addressing the lingering effects of the 2024 hurricane season.
