Manatee County Recognizes National Search and Rescue Week with Tribute to Local SAR Heroes
As the nation observes National Search and Rescue Week from May 16 to 22, Manatee County takes time to honor the dedicated individuals who risk their lives to save others during times of crisis.
From remote wilderness areas to coastal waters, search and rescue (SAR) teams play a vital role in locating the missing, aiding the injured, and reuniting families. In Manatee County, one such team has been at the forefront of that mission for over two decades.
Founded in 1999, Manatee County Search and Rescue (MCSAR) is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization that collaborates with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, emergency management officials, and other public safety partners. The team is equipped to respond to a wide range of emergencies, including missing persons, water rescues, natural disasters, and wilderness search and recovery operations.
MCSAR’s mission is to provide professional, highly trained personnel to assist local, state, and national agencies in search and rescue operations. Their capabilities include K9 tracking teams, drone surveillance, swift-water rescue, medical response, and ground search operations.
Volunteers undergo rigorous training to maintain certification and readiness at all times. They respond day or night, in all weather conditions, often dropping everything to aid in life-saving missions.
During National Search and Rescue Week, MCSAR joins SAR units nationwide in recognizing the teamwork, skill, and heart that go into every call for help.
Officials extended thanks to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, partner agencies, and the community for their continued support of SAR efforts. Their backing helps ensure that when someone is lost, hope is never far away.
