Manatee County has revised plans for a roadway improvement project near the historic Mixon Fruit Farm property, shifting the focus to a shorter section of 27th Street East.
The original project called for reconstructing the existing two-lane roadway from 26th Avenue East to 38th Avenue East. Under the updated design, improvements will instead concentrate on 27th Street East between 26th Avenue East and 30th Avenue East.
County officials say the project is intended to improve traffic flow and connectivity for residents and others traveling through the area.
The project area is near several well-known community destinations, including the historic Mixon Fruit Farm property, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Pirate City spring training complex and Johnson Middle School.
The Mixon Farms property was acquired by Manatee County, making transportation and access improvements around the site part of the county’s planning for the surrounding area.
