Manatee County Schools to Resume Monday, with Exception for Anna Maria Elementary
The School District of Manatee County announced that all schools will resume normal operations on Monday, September 30th, following the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Over the past 24 hours, district officials have completed hurricane shelter operations and assessed the condition of school campuses to ensure they are ready to welcome students back.
However, due to severe damage on Anna Maria Island, Anna Maria Elementary (AME) will not be able to reopen for classes. The district has arranged for Stewart Elementary in northwest Bradenton to temporarily host AME students and staff. The schools will share classrooms and implement a team-teaching approach until conditions on the island allow for AME to resume operations at its home campus.
District officials expressed gratitude to the maintenance, custodial, and food service teams, as well as school administrators, for their hard work in preparing the schools for reopening. They also thanked local and state agencies for their swift response, which has enabled the district to resume instruction quickly.
Parents and students are encouraged to prepare for the return to school on Monday, with the exception of those attending AME, who will begin their temporary relocation to Stewart Elementary.
