Manatee County Search and Rescue Enhances Emergency Response with Thermal Drone Training
Manatee County Search and Rescue teams took to the field this week for an intensive training session with the agency’s state-of-the-art Skydio X2-E drones, named Scout and Ranger. The hands-on exercise marked another step forward in utilizing drone technology to support life-saving missions.
The session focused on advanced drone skills, including thermal target acquisition, perimeter sweeps, and obstacle navigation. These capabilities are especially critical in low-visibility conditions such as nighttime searches or during severe weather emergencies.
The Skydio X2-E drones are equipped with thermal imaging sensors and autonomous navigation features, allowing crews to safely and efficiently locate missing persons in challenging environments. The training is part of the county’s ongoing efforts to modernize its search and rescue operations.
With the aerial support of Scout and Ranger complementing ground search teams, Manatee County is strengthening its readiness for emergencies ranging from wilderness rescues to post-disaster recovery missions.
