Manatee County Secures Funding for Key State Legislative Priorities
Manatee County secured a total of $12.4 million for all five of its major 2026 state legislative priorities in Governor Ron DeSantis’ approved state budget, advancing critical investments in transportation infrastructure, veterans services and homelessness response.
The funding reflects months of collaboration between the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners, the County’s Government Relations Department and their state legislative delegation to advance these projects.
Approved projects include:
Fresh Start Manatee Phase 2 — funded at $1.3 million
Singletary Road Bridge Replacement — funded at $1.5 million
Veterans Resource Hub and Memorial Park (Valor Commons) — funded at $1.6 million
51st Street West Extension — funded at $3 million
Fort Hamer Road/I-75 Interchange Design — funded at $5 million
Together, these investments will improve transportation, strengthen public safety, expand services for veterans and individuals experiencing homelessness, and support Manatee County’s continued momentum.
“We are incredibly grateful to Governor Ron DeSantis for recognizing the importance of these projects and investing in Manatee County’s future,” said District 3 Commissioner and Chair Tal Siddique. “I’d also like to thank Senator Jim Boyd, Senator Joe Gruters, Representative Will Robinson, Representative Bill Conerly and Representative Michael Owen for their advocacy throughout the legislative session. Their partnership helped deliver lasting investments that will strengthen Manatee County for generations to come. I’d also like to recognize Johnston & Stewart Government Strategies for their continued partnership and support throughout the legislative process.”
Fresh Start Manatee Phase 2, a partnership with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, will renovate a permanent facility providing emergency shelter and wraparound services for individuals experiencing homelessness, supporting long-term stability and community reintegration.
“Fresh Start is about creating a pathway forward,” said District 2 Commissioner Amanda Ballard. “This investment allows us to continue addressing homelessness with compassion, accountability and long-term solutions that connect people with the resources they need to rebuild their lives.”
Funding for the Veterans Resource Hub and Memorial Park, now known as Valor Commons, will support the continued development of a regional destination dedicated to serving veterans and their families through centralized resources, memorial spaces and community support services.
“Valor Commons represents our community’s commitment to those who have served our nation,” said District 4 Commissioner and U.S. Marine Corps veteran Mike Rahn. “This funding brings us one step closer to creating a place where veterans and their families can access critical services, find support and be honored for their sacrifices.”
The approved transportation projects, including the 51st Street West Extension, Singletary Road Bridge Replacement and Fort Hamer Road/I-75 Interchange, will improve connectivity, reduce congestion, strengthen emergency evacuation routes and modernize critical infrastructure throughout Manatee County. The funding reflects the success of the County’s 2026 legislative priorities and continued collaboration between the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners, state leaders and their state legislative delegation.
