Manatee County Selected to Participate in White House Summit on Homelessness and Addiction
Manatee County has been selected to participate in a national summit at the White House in Washington, D.C., next week, recognizing the community’s work to address homelessness and substance use disorders.
Outreach Case Manager Angie Sciarrone with Manatee County’s Community Health Program and District 2 Commissioner Amanda Ballard will attend the “Best Practices for Addiction Treatment within Homelessness” summit on April 13–14. Manatee County is among a select group of communities invited to participate.
“In Manatee County, we’ve been very intentional about building an ecosystem of support by creating coordinated network of services rather than isolated programs,” said Commissioner Amanda Ballard. “From outreach and shelter to behavioral health and recovery, this work is making a real impact, and we’re proud to contribute to a larger conversation on what’s working.”
The summit will convene experts from across the country to identify effective strategies for treating addiction and mental illness among individuals experiencing homelessness. The insights gathered will help shape a national toolkit to guide communities facing similar challenges.
“It’s truly an honor to be one of 25 agencies from across the country invited to participate in this Summit,” said Sciarrone. “This is an opportunity to share what we’ve been building in Manatee County and to learn from others working in this space at the highest level.”
Manatee County’s Community Health Program focuses on proactive outreach and coordinated care, connecting individuals to medical services, behavioral health support, and long-term resources. By meeting people where they are and providing pathways to stability, the program is designed to create lasting outcomes for those it serves.
