Two boys who became lost in a remote rural area of Manatee County were safely located on October 27, 2026, thanks to the tracking skills of Bloodhound K9 Cane and the coordinated efforts of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies on the ground and members of the sheriff’s office Aviation Unit were searching for the missing boys when Cane picked up their scent and began tracking them through the rural terrain.
Within approximately 10 minutes, Cane led his handler through thick vegetation to the boys, who were found in dense brush. Both children were safely recovered and reunited with their families.
Authorities have not released the boys’ ages, the exact location of the incident, how they became lost, or how long they were missing before being found.
The rescue highlights the important role specialized K9 units play in missing-person investigations, particularly in rural areas where dense vegetation and difficult terrain can complicate search efforts.
Cane has previously assisted the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office in locating missing individuals. In March 2026, Cane and Deputy Bush helped locate a missing 74-year-old Bradenton man who had been missing for more than 24 hours. The K9 team tracked the man’s scent to an area of dense vegetation approximately one mile from his home.
The sheriff’s office credited Cane, his handler, ground deputies, and Aviation Unit personnel for their teamwork in bringing the boys home safely.
The successful search is another example of how the sheriff’s office uses specialized K9 teams and aviation resources to locate missing individuals and protect Manatee County residents.
