Members of the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit brought home several top awards after competing against law enforcement canine teams from across the country at the United States Police Canine Association Nationals in Abilene, Texas.
Lt. Jeremy Bertolino and K9 Vinnie earned first place overall, along with first-place finishes in Search Work and Obedience. The team also placed second in Criminal Apprehension.
Deputy Kyle Chavers and K9 Tyr finished fourth overall. They earned second place in Search Work and third place in Obedience.
Bertolino and Chavers were also members of the regional team that captured first place in the regional team competition.
Deputy Keith Bush played a key role in the team’s preparation and performance, serving as a decoy during training and competition.
The national event brings together police K9 teams to test skills used in law enforcement operations, including obedience, searches and criminal apprehension.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office recognized the handlers, K9s and supporting team members for their performance and dedication to maintaining high standards in law enforcement canine training.
