Manatee County Students Explore Surgical Robotics at Manatee Memorial Hospital
Students from several Manatee County schools recently gained hands-on experience with advanced surgical technology during a special educational event at Manatee Memorial Hospital. The interactive session introduced students to the da Vinci 5 surgical robot, offering a close-up look at how robotics are transforming modern medicine.
The hospital welcomed students from Lincoln Memorial Middle School, Palmetto High School, Parrish Community High School and Manatee High School, many of whom are enrolled in health science and medical pathway programs. Local surgeons and medical professionals guided students through demonstrations and hands-on activities that replicated the precision and coordination required for robotic-assisted surgery.
Students were able to operate the robotic system to complete delicate tasks, helping them better understand how surgeons use advanced tools to perform minimally invasive procedures. The experience connected classroom learning with real-world applications and highlighted a wide range of career opportunities in healthcare, technology and engineering.
Adding to the event's significance, City of Bradenton Mayor Gene Brown, a Manatee High School alumnus, joined students during the demonstration, showing support for local education and workforce development. His participation underscored the importance of community leaders investing in and encouraging the next generation of medical professionals.
Hospital leaders and educators said the goal of the event was to inspire students early, build confidence and spark curiosity about careers in medicine. As the only hospital in Manatee County equipped with the da Vinci 5 surgical robot, Manatee Memorial Hospital hopes experiences like this will help shape future pathways for local students interested in healthcare and innovation.
