Manatee County Teen Arrested on Second-Degree Murder Charge in Sarasota Homicide
A 17-year-old Manatee County resident has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old man found wounded in Sarasota early July 7.
According to the Sarasota Police Department, William Rosencrantz was taken into custody in Manatee County on July 8, less than 48 hours after the homicide. He is facing a felony charge of second-degree murder.
Police said officers responded around 12:30 a.m. July 7 after receiving a 911 call reporting a person lying on the ground bleeding near the intersection of 15th Street and Central Avenue. Officers found an 18-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital but died while en route. His identity has not been publicly released by authorities. No other injuries were reported.
Sarasota Police credited investigators and officers with quickly identifying and arresting the suspect. The department said the arrest followed an intensive investigation that led detectives to Rosencrantz in Manatee County.
