Manatee County to Break Ground on Valor Commons—A First-of-its-kind Veterans Connection Hub and Memorial Campus
Manatee County Government invites the public, veterans, community partners and media to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for Valor Commons—the County’s future Veterans Connection Hub and Memorial Campus (5215 Buckeye Road, Palmetto) —on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 1 p.m.
Valor Commons will serve as a unique landmark dedicated to honoring and supporting America’s military service members—past, present and future.
“A new chapter in Manatee County’s commitment to our veterans begins with this groundbreaking,” said At-Large Commissioner Jason Bearden. “I think it goes to the valor that our veterans—and those who have gone before us—have shown to protect our great country.”
Valor Commons (located right next door to the newly named Veterans Elementary School site) is being developed as an interactive, innovative, multi-purpose campus that blends commemoration, education and community engagement. Planned features include:
Veterans Resource Center offering benefit navigation, caregiver and peer support and a business incubator for veteran entrepreneurs.
Memorial and Reflection Areas with community-designed installations and serene walking trails.
Public Event Spaces for ceremonies, gatherings and civic events honoring military service.
The project is currently in the early stages of design, site configuration and infrastructure planning. An initial 12-to-18-month phase will include road access, utilities, early memorial elements and installation of a temporary structure to begin providing services. Full-campus construction will roll out over the following 3 to 5 years.
The long-term vision for Valor Commons includes transitioning the government-initiated project to nonprofit management to ensure sustainability and philanthropic growth. Work is underway to establish a dedicated fund through the Manatee Community Foundation to support private donations.
