Manatee County to Honor Fallen Marine with Roadway Dedication
Manatee County Commissioners have voted to name a section of roadway in honor of Private First Class Christopher Cobb, a U.S. Marine and lifelong Manatee County resident who was killed in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Pfc. Cobb lost his life on April 6, 2004, after coming under hostile fire in Ramadi, Anbar Province. The Board of County Commissioners directed staff to begin the process of designating a roadway in his name, recognizing his courage, dedication, and ultimate sacrifice.
According to county records, Cobb was born in Sarasota on January 1, 1985, and grew up in Manatee County. He attended Orange Ridge-Bullock Elementary and Harllee Middle School before graduating from Bayshore High School in 2003. During his time at Bayshore, he participated in the JROTC program and played violin in the school orchestra.
Outside of school, Cobb held part-time jobs at local businesses, including Winn-Dixie, Walgreens, and a nearby nursing home. Friends and family recall his love of computer games and spending time around town with his peers.
The county’s motion described the dedication as a meaningful way to ensure that future generations remember Cobb’s service and sacrifice. Once finalized, the designated roadway will stand as a lasting tribute to his commitment and bravery in service to his country.
