Manatee County to Host Earth Day Celebration with Hands-On Activities and Community Cleanup
Manatee County is inviting residents to celebrate Earth Day with an interactive event focused on environmental education, conservation, and community engagement. The Earth Day Celebration is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at G.T. Bray Recreation Center and John Marble Recreation Center.
The event will bring together local experts, conservation organizations, and student filmmakers to provide a hands-on learning experience centered on protecting Florida’s natural resources. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities designed to inspire environmental stewardship across all ages.
Highlights of the event include oyster reef restoration activities, where participants can create oyster rag pots to support coastal ecosystems. Student-produced Florida Eco Films will be featured, showcasing efforts to preserve the region’s environmental heritage. Wildlife education sessions will be led by organizations such as Longboat Key Turtle Watch and Suncoast Waterkeepers, offering insights into local marine life and coastal ecology.
In addition to educational components, the event will include a community park cleanup to keep recreation areas clean and accessible. Organizers hope the combination of learning and action will encourage residents to take an active role in preserving the environment.
As part of a broader sustainability effort, shoe recycling stations will also be available throughout April at G.T. Bray Recreation Center, John Marble Recreation Center, and all Manatee County libraries.
The Earth Day Celebration is designed to connect the community with local conservation efforts while fostering a deeper understanding of the importance of protecting Florida’s ecosystems for future generations.
