Manatee County Utilities crews continue working to repair a sewer force main damaged Tuesday afternoon by a third-party contractor performing work unrelated to County operations.
On October 13, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Manatee County Utilities was notified of a sanitary sewer overflow near the intersection of 26th Street West and 60th Avenue West in Bradenton. The incident occurred when a contractor installing electrical conduit struck a 24-inch sewer force main.
Utilities crews responded and stopped the discharge at the damaged main Tuesday evening. However, additional overflows have occurred at other locations within the collection system as crews work to manage wastewater flows during the repair process.
The initial estimated discharge volume exceeds 300,000 gallons.
To support the response, Manatee County has issued several emergency purchase orders to bring in additional resources and assistance. These efforts are helping supplement County crews as they work to repair the damaged line, recover discharged wastewater and restore normal operations as quickly and safely as possible.
Residents and motorists are encouraged to avoid the affected area while repairs continue. Crews and equipment are actively working near the intersection, and additional traffic could complicate access and potentially delay restoration efforts.
Manatee County appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as Utilities crews work to safely complete repairs and recovery operations.
Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
