Manatee Food Security Network Partnership Shares 25,000 Pounds of Fresh Food With Residents
A partnership through the Manatee Food Security Network is helping expand access to fresh food for residents across Manatee County.
Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee and Good Neighbors recently shared 25,000 pounds of produce and dairy products through the network’s Cooperative Purchasing Working Group. The collaboration allows organizations to accept large palletized donations that may otherwise be too large for a single nonprofit to distribute on its own.
By coordinating resources and sharing food among partner agencies, the organizations are able to ensure more fresh products reach families, seniors and individuals experiencing food insecurity throughout the community.
The effort highlights the growing importance of collaboration among local nonprofits as food costs continue to rise and many households face increased financial pressure. Fresh produce and dairy products are often among the most expensive and difficult items for families to consistently afford, making access to these donations especially valuable.
The cooperative approach also helps reduce food waste by preventing large donations from being turned away due to storage or distribution limitations. Instead, food can quickly be divided among organizations with established outreach networks and delivered directly to residents in need.
Community leaders say partnerships like this strengthen the county’s overall food assistance system by improving efficiency, increasing access to nutritious foods and maximizing the impact of donations.
The Manatee Food Security Network continues working with local organizations to address hunger and improve food access across the region through shared resources, partnerships and coordinated distribution efforts.
