Manatee Memorial Hospital Achieves 100% Residency Match for Graduate Medical Education Program
Manatee Memorial Hospital (MMH) announced that its Graduate Medical Education (GME) program achieved a 100% match rate in the 2026 residency Match through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). This marks the 16th consecutive year that the MMH GME has matched 100% since its inception in 2011, a true testament to the growing strength and reputation of the County’s longest-running GME program. All 14 available residency positions were filled, including 10 Internal Medicine residents and 4 Family Medicine residents who will begin their training this summer.
A 100% match rate is a notable accomplishment for a residency program. Each year, tens of thousands of medical school graduates compete for residency training positions through the NRMP Match, one of the most competitive transitions in medical education. In recent years, more than 50,000 applicants have registered for the Match, competing for just over 40,000 residency positions nationwide, underscoring the competitiveness of the process.
“This is an outstanding achievement for our Graduate Medical Education program,” said Andy Guz, CEO at Manatee Memorial Hospital. “Achieving a 100% match with top-tier candidates reflects the exceptional educational environment our faculty physicians have cultivated and the increasing interest from graduating medical students who want to train in a community-focused teaching hospital.”
Graduate Medical Education programs play a critical role in training the next generation of physicians while strengthening the quality of care within teaching hospitals. Residents train alongside experienced attending physicians, contributing to patient care teams while gaining direct clinical experience in a structured academic environment.
Hospitals with residency programs also bring significant benefits to their communities. Studies show that physicians often choose to practice in the communities where they complete their training, helping address physician shortages and improving access to care. Programs in internal medicine and family medicine are especially important because they help strengthen the pipeline of primary care physicians serving local populations.
“Our residency programs are an important investment in the future of healthcare in our region,” said Mr. Guz. “Training physicians here not only enhances the level of care available to our patients today, but it also helps build a stronger physician workforce for our community in the years ahead.”
The incoming residents will begin two weeks of orientation in mid-June and subsequently begin their training in July at Manatee Memorial Hospital, where they will work closely with faculty physicians and multidisciplinary care teams while serving patients throughout Manatee County.
