Manatee PAL’s Thunder Select Earns National Rankings in Debut Puma Circuit Season
Manatee PAL Thunder Select wrapped up a stellar first season on the NxtPro Puma Circuit. The 15U team advanced to the Sweet Sixteen at Puma Championships and finished with a 33–17 overall record (21–12 in Puma play), securing a #15 national ranking among 150 teams. Meanwhile, the 16U squad reached the Elite 32 in Puma postseason play, posting a dominant 38–11 overall mark (24–11 in Puma tournaments) and ranking #43 out of 150.
Leadership and sponsors are proud of the squads’ achievements, and with the PUMA partnership officially renewed, preparation is ramping up. Both high school and middle school teams are already training intensively in the off‑season.
PAL at a Glance:
Established in 1989 under the Bradenton Police Department, since 1990 sponsored by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office, with expanded support from the county and school board.
Serves approximately 1,500 youth annually.
Offers a wide range of programs: flag football, in‑house and travel basketball (Thunder), baseball, boxing, cheerleading, inline hockey, track, and summer camp, with academic and mentoring supports built in.
Operates under the motto “Putting Kids First,” emphasizing athletics and academics to foster respect for law enforcement and guide youth away from negative influences.
Facility Expansion Plans
Plans are underway to construct a new athletic facility close to LECOM Park in Bradenton—home of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ spring training and the Bradenton Marauders minor league team. The proposed complex is intended to support PAL’s year-round programming—athletics, mentoring, and community enrichment—with accessible, modern space for young participants.
