Manatee Village Historical Park will host a special presentation examining Florida’s often-overlooked role in the American Revolution on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 2 to 3 p.m.
Madilyn Frick of the Florida Maritime Museum will serve as the guest speaker for Florida in the American Revolution, a program highlighting the seafaring activity that took place in and around Florida during the Revolutionary War.
The presentation will explore what life was like for those at sea during the conflict and the maritime activity that connected Florida to the broader events shaping the future of the United States.
While Florida was not one of the original 13 colonies that declared independence from Great Britain, the region still played a role in the Revolutionary War. Florida was under British control during much of the conflict, and its location along important Gulf and Atlantic waterways made it strategically significant.
The Manatee Village Historical Park program is being presented as part of the commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, giving residents an opportunity to learn more about the people, places and events connected to Florida during the Revolutionary era.
The presentation will take place at Manatee Village Historical Park on Oct. 24 from 2 to 3 p.m.
