The Bradenton Marauders (18-31, 49-65) fell just short of a comeback during a 7-5 loss to the Jupiter Hammerheads (22-27, 59-56) on Wednesday from LECOM Park. Cristian Jauregui extended his hitting streak to five games with a triple, while Luke Scherrer rocketed his fifth homer of the year.
Down 5-0 in the bottom of the sixth, the Marauders offense caught fire off Hammerheads reliever Janero Miller. Scherrer blasted a solo homer to make it a 5-1 ballgame. Chris Rembert doubled, stole third, and scored on an RBI groundout from Eddie King Jr.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jauregui tripled and was plated on a base hit by Scherrer to make it 5-3.
After Jupiter put together two runs in the top of the eighth, Bradenton responded in the bottom of the ninth. Bralyn Brazoban walked, Scherrer reached on a dropped third strike, and Rembert walked to load the bases. King Jr. scored Brazoban on a sacrifice fly, cutting the deficit 7-4. Scherrer scratched across a run on a wild pitch, but the Marauders went scoreless the rest of the way to finalize a 7-5 win for the Hammerheads.
Bradenton and Jupiter play game three of a six-game series on Thursday with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
