Marauders Drop Slugfest to Tortugas in Series Finale
Jared Jones secured three hits, Ramirez drives in three runs
Despite 10 hits by the Bradenton Marauders (6-9, 37-43), they fell 9-8 to the Daytona Tortugas (8-6, 29-51) on Sunday from LECOM Park. Jared Jones secured three hits, while Richard Ramirez homered and drove in three runs.
After Daytona put up three runs in the top of the first, Bradenton responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Johan De Los Santos singled, while Eddie King Jr. and Jones worked back-to-back walks to load the bases. Edgleen Perez grounded into a fielder’s choice, moving King Jr. to third and scoring De Los Santos. A wild pitch plated King Jr., cutting the deficit, 3-2.
In the top of the fourth, Ty Doucette capped off a five-run inning with a two-run homer to make it an 8-2 ballgame.
De Los Santos led off the bottom of the fifth with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch. After King Jr. walked, another wild pitch allowed De Los Santos to plate and make it 8-3. A single by Jones moved King Jr. to second, and a fielder’s choice from Perez put runners on the corners. Bralyn Brazoban drove in King Jr. on a groundout and Ramirez collected a two-run homer to make it an 8-6 ballgame.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Marauders tied the game off Tortugas reliever Stharlin Torres. King Jr. singled and moved to third on a double from Jones. A groundout by Perez moved Jones to third and scored King Jr. Ramirez grounded into a fielder’s choice, allowing Jones to score and tie the game 8-8.
Arnaldo Lantigua homered in the top of the eighth and Bradenton went scoreless the rest of the way to finalize a 9-8 win for Daytona.
Bradenton takes the day off on Monday before beginning a six-game road trip on Tuesday against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels. First pitch from Hammond Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m.
