Marauders End Six-Game Slide Behind Sanford’s Solo Homer
King Jr. extends on-base streak to 22 games, Pimentel’s hitting streak moves to five
The Bradenton Marauders (14-22, 45-56) ended their six-game losing streak in a 4-2 win against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels (17-19, 54-47) on Tuesday from LECOM Park. Wyatt Sanford notched a solo homer, while Eddie King Jr. extended his on-base streak to 22 games.
After Fort Myers began the scoring in the top of the first, Bradenton responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Sanford blasted a solo homer to tie the ballgame 1-1.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Marauders caught fire to put up three runs on the Mighty Mussels. Robert Hassell reached on an error and King Jr. singled to put runners first and third. A base hit by Richard Ramirez brought home Hassell to make it a 2-1 game. After Brent Iredale walked to load the bases, Jauregui singled to drive in two runs, putting Bradenton up 4-1.
Despite a run in the top of the eighth from Fort Myers, Bradenton reliever David Matoma closed the door in the ninth to finalize a 4-2 win for the Marauders.
Pitterson Rosa (1-0) earned the win, letting up a hit, a walk, and a strikeout over 2.0 scoreless frames. Nick McAuliffe (2-1) took the loss, allowing three runs (zero earned) on three hits, a walk, and two strikeouts over 1.0 inning.
The Marauders and Mighty Mussels play game two of a six-game series on Wednesday with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m.
