Marauders Fall 5-3 Despite Perez’s Big Day at the Plate
Garcia clobbers three hits, Sterling strikes out five
The Bradenton Marauders fell to the Dunedin Blue Jays 5-3 despite a four-hit performance by Edgleen Perez on Sunday from TD Ballpark. Jhostynxon Garcia collected three hits and Levi Sterling recorded five strikeouts over 5.0 frames.
Bradenton began the scoring in the top of the first off Dunedin starter Dylan Watts. Garcia singled and moved to second on a walk by Eddie King Jr. Perez notched a base hit to left, scoring Garcia to make it 1-0.
After Dunedin plated two runs in the bottom of the second, Bradenton bounced back with a run in the top of the third. Murf Gray, Perez, and Richard Ramirez all worked walks to load the bases. Luke Scherrer singled to score Gray and made it a 2-2 ballgame.
Down 5-2 in the top of the ninth, Perez connected for an RBI single off Blue Jays reliever Jack Eshleman, but the Marauders went scoreless the rest of the way to finalize a 5-3 win for Dunedin.
Franly Urena (2-0) earned the win, letting up three hits on a walk and two strikeouts over 2.0 scoreless innings. Sterling (2-2) took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits, a walk, and five strikeouts over 5.0 frames. Eshleman (5) notched the save, letting up a run on two hits, a walk, and a strikeout.
The Marauders take the day off on Monday before beginning a six-game series on Tuesday against the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels from LECOM Park. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
