Meals on Wheels PLUS Launches Summer Campaign to Provide 200,000 Meals for Manatee Families
Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee is calling on the community to help provide 200,000 meals for local children and families during the summer months through its Food4Families program.
The nonprofit organization distributes food assistance throughout the nine-week summer break, a time when many children lose access to school-based meal programs and families face increased financial strain.
According to Meals on Wheels PLUS, demand for assistance is already growing. After the first week of summer food distributions, the organization reported an 11 percent increase in the number of families seeking support through the Food4Families program.
At the same time, the nonprofit faces a seasonal challenge as both monetary contributions and food donations traditionally decline during the summer months, despite the increased need for assistance.
Meals on Wheels PLUS estimates that each meal costs approximately $1.50 to provide. A donation of $100 can help supply more than 65 meals to families experiencing food insecurity in Manatee County.
The organization emphasized that all donations remain within Manatee County, directly benefiting local residents in need.
Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, is encouraging individuals, businesses and community groups to contribute food or financial donations to help ensure children and families have access to nutritious meals throughout the summer.
Community support will play a critical role in helping the organization meet its goal of delivering 200,000 meals and addressing the growing demand for food assistance during the school break.
