MLK Parade to Impact Traffic in Palmetto on January 17; Drivers Advised to Plan Ahead
The City of Palmetto will honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with the annual MLK Parade on Saturday, January 17, 2026, bringing community members together for a day of remembrance, reflection, and celebration. The parade is scheduled to take place from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will result in temporary traffic impacts throughout portions of the city.
There will be no official detour routes during the parade. However, the Palmetto Police Department has provided suggested travel routes to help motorists navigate the area and access the Manatee County Fairgrounds during parade activities.
Drivers traveling to the fairgrounds from the north are encouraged to use 23rd Street West to 14th Avenue West. Those approaching from the south should plan to take 8th Street West to 14th Avenue West. These routes are intended to minimize congestion and maintain access while roads along the parade route experience delays.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, and follow posted signage and directions from law enforcement officers on duty. Traffic delays are expected during parade hours, particularly in downtown and surrounding neighborhoods.
City officials note that additional information will be shared leading up to the event, including details on the historical significance of the MLK Parade and further guidance related to road closures and traffic flow on parade day. The community’s patience and cooperation are appreciated as Palmetto comes together to commemorate Dr. King’s enduring legacy and support this important community tradition.
