More Than 180 Enforcement Actions Taken During I-75 Traffic Operation in Manatee County
More than 180 traffic enforcement actions were taken during a joint operation by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol along the Interstate 75 corridor in Manatee County on Aug. 6.
The four-hour initiative targeted speeding, aggressive driving, Move Over Law violations and other hazardous driving behaviors that law enforcement officials say contribute to crashes and put motorists and first responders at risk.
Manatee County Sheriff’s Office traffic deputies issued 81 citations and 22 warnings during the operation. Nearly 80% of the citations involved speeding or other violations considered a risk to motorists and emergency personnel.
Deputies issued 48 citations for speeding, 15 for Move Over Law violations and one Super Speeder citation.
Additional citations included three for driving with a suspended license, four for expired registrations, four for window tint violations, four for failing to provide proof of insurance, one for a left-lane violation and one for driving without a license.
The Florida Highway Patrol led the joint enforcement effort, conducting 67 traffic stops and issuing 56 citations and 21 warnings.
Troopers focused on many of the same traffic safety concerns, including speeding and Move Over Law violations, as well as suspended licenses, seatbelt violations, following too closely and proof-of-insurance violations.
Combined, the two agencies issued 137 citations and 43 warnings during the four-hour operation.
The enforcement initiative was aimed at improving safety along I-75, one of the region’s busiest transportation corridors. Authorities emphasized that reducing speed, moving over for stopped emergency and service vehicles and following other traffic laws can help prevent crashes and protect those working along the roadway.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office plans to continue partnering with the Florida Highway Patrol on traffic enforcement initiatives aimed at reducing preventable crashes and improving roadway safety throughout Manatee County.
