Mosaic Company Commits $350,000 to Kitchen at Under One Roof Gateway South
Major donation anchors Manatee County’s new women’s shelter and recovery center ahead of ribbon cutting
The Mosaic Company has donated $350,000 to refurbish the kitchen at Under One Roof Gateway South, a new women’s shelter and recovery center in Bradenton.
“Our partnership with Helping Up Mission has always been about one thing: transformation,” said Manatee County district 2 commissioner Amanda Ballard. “This extraordinary investment ensures that Under One Roof will not only provide shelter and recovery services, but also the nourishment and dignity that come from sharing a meal in a space designed with care.”
The investment, one of the largest private contributions to the project, will create a fully updated space to provide daily meals and support residents in recovery. The announcement comes as Manatee County, Manatee Community Foundation and Helping Up Mission prepare to celebrate the facility’s ribbon cutting and open house on October 1, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at 407 57th Avenue East.
“At Mosaic, we are proud of our noble mission to help the world grow the food it needs,” said Jackie Barron, stakeholder & media relations manager for Mosaic. “Fighting food insecurity begins here at home. We are honored to play a supporting role in the critical work that lies ahead for Under One Roof. Success is found in the collective community surrounding these women and those who struggle in the shadows every day. Partnering with Manatee County and the Manatee Community Foundation is a privilege. Together we’re better.”
The new kitchen is designed as the heart of the facility, giving women in recovery access to nutritious meals and a welcoming communal space. Leaders say the gift underscores the power of public–private partnerships in addressing homelessness, addiction and trauma in Manatee County.
“MCF is proud to be part of this effort which will create lasting impact for vulnerable women in our community,” said Veronica Thames, chief executive officer of Manatee Community Foundation. “This work is a great example of how public-private partnerships leverage resources across donors, nonprofits, businesses and government to build solutions that change lives and strengthen the fabric of our community for generations.”
Under One Roof Gateway South transforms a former Sheriff’s Office building into a trauma-informed campus that provides housing, case management, healthcare coordination and recovery services for women. Operated by Helping Up Mission, the facility expands Manatee County’s continuum of care and complements the work of Turning Points, Centerstone, the Salvation Army and Fresh Start Manatee.
The project is funded through opioid settlement dollars, HUD’s HOME-ARP program, contributions from Manatee County and philanthropic support from organizations including Manatee Community Foundation and Mosaic. This combined investment demonstrates a unified commitment to addressing substance abuse and homelessness with compassion and collaboration.
Guests attending the October 1 ceremony will be able to tour the facility and meet with county officials, nonprofit leaders, and community partners.
