Motorcyclist Arrested After Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Manatee Avenue
A 27-year-old motorcyclist has been arrested following a fatal pedestrian crash on Friday evening on Manatee Avenue at 21st Street East, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
The crash occurred around 6:45 p.m. when a pedestrian, a man in his 80s, was crossing Manatee Avenue near the intersection and was struck by an oncoming motorcycle. Investigators determined the pedestrian was not in a crosswalk at the time of the collision. After the initial impact, the pedestrian was also struck by a second vehicle.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcyclist involved in the initial collision left the scene but later contacted law enforcement. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
The roadway remained closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene. All lanes of Manatee Avenue reopened around 1 a.m.
The investigation remains ongoing as officers continue to review the circumstances surrounding the crash.
