Motorcyclist Killed in Crash With Dump Truck at U.S. 41 and I-275 Interchange
A motorcyclist was killed Thursday afternoon in a crash involving a dump truck at the intersection of U.S. 41 and the southbound entrance ramp to Interstate 275, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred at approximately 4:24 p.m. Investigators reported that a dump truck, driven by a 59-year-old man from North Port, was stopped in the southbound left-turn lane of U.S. 41 at the I-275 interchange.
Authorities said a Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling northbound on U.S. 41 approaching the intersection when the dump truck turned left toward the entrance ramp. The motorcycle struck the right side of the truck.
The motorcyclist, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the dump truck was not injured.
According to troopers, the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the speed of the vehicles and the status of the traffic signals at the time of the collision.
