Myakka Road and Clay Gully Road Reopen Following Major Infrastructure Project
Myakka Road and Clay Gully Road have officially reopened following the successful completion of a critical infrastructure project that required months of construction and a full road closure.
The project, launched by Manatee County after identifying significant structural issues with a culvert beneath Myakka Road, aimed to ensure long-term safety and stability for area residents. A temporary repair was made in 2023, but a permanent solution was prioritized after confirming shared road ownership through an interlocal agreement with Sarasota County.
Under the terms of the agreement, Sarasota County will reimburse Manatee County for 50% of the project cost.
The nature of the culvert replacement and road reconstruction required a full closure, resulting in lengthy detours and temporary disruptions for those who rely on the route daily. With the work now complete, traffic has resumed and connectivity restored.

The reopening marks a significant milestone in the County’s commitment to maintaining safe and resilient roadways for all.
