Navarro Punches Out Career-High 10 in 13-4 Victory over Cardinals
Reeder and Ovalle each work four walks, Mateo earns first Single-A win
Reinold Navarro fanned a career-high 10 batters over 4.0 innings during a 13-4 win for the Bradenton Marauders (3-5, 34-39) over the Palm Beach Cardinals (6-2, 39-35) on Saturday from Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Canon Reeder and Fredderick Ovalle each worked four walks, while Carlos Mateo earned five strikeouts over 2.0 innings to notch his first Single-A victory.
Palm Beach plated a run off Navarro in the bottom of the second, but Bradenton responded with four runs in the top of the third. Reeder and Ovalle walked, while Antonio Pimentel singled to load the bases. A walk from King Jr. scored Reeder to tie the game, 1-1. Brazoban reached on a fielder’s choice, plating Ovalle to put the Marauders up 2-1. After Brent Iredale walked to load the bases, Richard Ramirez doubled to score two runs and make it 4-1.
In the top of the fourth, Reeder walked, stole second, and came around to score on a base hit by King Jr. to make it a 5-1 ballgame.
With one out in the top of the fifth, Eddie Rynders singled and scored on a double by Reeder to increase the lead, 6-1.
In the top of the sixth, Pimentel walked and moved to second on a base knock from King Jr. After moving to third on a walk from Iredale, Pimentel plated on a sacrifice flyout by Ramirez to make it a 7-1 ballgame.
The Cardinals scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Marauders offense exploded in the top of the seventh. Reeder reached base on a fielder’s choice, and Ovalle walked to put runners on second and first. A triple by Pimentel scored Reeder and Ovalle to make it 9-2. After King Jr. was hit by a pitch, Brazoban doubled, plating two runs to put Bradenton up 11-2. Iredale reached base on a fielding error, and Raymond Mola walked to load the bases. Luke Scherrer and Reeder worked back-to-back walks to score two runs and make it a 13-2 ballgame.
Palm Beach put up just two runs the rest of the way to finalize a 13-4 win for Bradenton.
Mateo (1-0) earned the win, letting up a run on a hit with a walk and five strikeouts over 2.0 innings. Payton Graham (0-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on a hit, four walks, and a strikeout over 2.2 frames.
The Marauders and Cardinals play the finale of a six-game series on Sunday with first pitch set for 12:30 p.m. from Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
