New Speed Detection Cameras Installed in School Zones Across Manatee County
Starting today, September 16, Manatee County drivers will notice increased traffic enforcement in several school zones with the installation of new speed detection cameras. These cameras have been placed at key locations near Bayshore Elementary School (Bayshore Gardens Parkway), Gullett Elementary School/Jain Middle School, Electa Lee Magnet Middle School, James Tillman Elementary School (16th Avenue East), Marjorie Kinnan Elementary School, Oneco Elementary, Palm View K-8 (Bayshore Road), and Southeast High School.
For the first 30 days, drivers exceeding the posted speed limit by 10 miles per hour or more in these zones will receive a warning. However, starting October 16, violations will result in a $100 fine. The speed detection cameras are active during flashing school zone times as well as during school hours, meaning violations could occur at any time during the school day.
Officials hope the new measures will encourage safer driving behaviors and protect students in these areas. For more details and a map of activated school zones, drivers can visit the county’s official website at mymanatee.org/speedcams.
