Painted Bunting Celebration Brings Art, Wildlife, and Community Together at Felts Audubon Preserve
The Manatee County Audubon Society and Big Waters Land Trust are excited to announce the Painted Bunting Celebration, a vibrant, family-friendly community event honoring the return of Florida’s most colorful songbird. Taking place on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 9 AM to 12 PM at the picturesque Felts Audubon Preserve, the event unites art, nature, and conservation in one unforgettable morning.
“The return of the Painted Bunting symbolizes the beauty and biodiversity that make our region so special,” said Patty Ford, Manatee Audubon President. “This celebration brings the community together to enjoy creativity, connect with nature, and support conservation efforts.”
Event Highlights
Artist Village & Open-Air Exhibits
Guests can explore an outdoor gallery featuring regional artists showcasing original works inspired by birds, wildlife, and the natural world. Artwork includes watercolor, photography, ceramics, textiles, woodwork, and more—available for viewing and purchase.
Artisan Market
Shop handcrafted nature-inspired goods including jewelry, birdhouses, prints, carvings, greeting cards, and eco-friendly products—perfect for holiday gifting.
Painted Bunting Art Contest
Artists of all ages are invited to submit their best Painted Bunting-themed artwork for display. Visitors will vote for winners in Adult, Youth, and Children’s categories. Prizes include gift cards, birding gear, and a feature in the Manatee Audubon newsletter.
Creative Kids’ Craft Stations
Families can enjoy hands-on creative fun such as Painted Bunting mask-making, birdhouse ornament decorating, and nature-themed art activities.
Photo Walks & Birdwatching Tours
Naturalists will guide guests through Felts’ blind and trail system in search of the Painted Bunting and other winter residents. Perfect for photographers and bird lovers.
Artist Demonstrations & Workshops
Local artists will lead small-group sessions in nature journaling and other creative practices inspired by the preserve’s landscape.
Light Refreshments
Local vendors will offer coffee, cold beverages, and snacks for purchase.
Painted Bunting Conservation Station
Visitors can learn about bunting migration, habitat needs, and ways to support conservation at home. Volunteers will provide resources, stories, and tips for creating bird-friendly spaces.

Proceeds and donations support the Manatee County Audubon Society’s mission to protect wildlife habitat, expand community education programs, and maintain the cherished Felts Audubon Preserve.
