Palmetto Adjusts Recycling and Yard Waste Rules as Part of Citywide Service Update
Beginning this October, Palmetto residents will see several changes to solid waste and recycling services as the city works to align with county requirements and maintain cleaner neighborhoods.
Recycling collection schedules have been revised based on location. Residents living north of 10th Street will now have recycling pickup on Fridays, while those south of 10th Street will continue to have service on Mondays. Regular household garbage collection will remain twice a week, distinguishing Palmetto from unincorporated Manatee County, where service has recently shifted to once a week.
New rules for yard waste also take effect this month. As of October 1, residents may no longer use plastic bags for yard debris. Instead, they are encouraged to use reusable containers, paper bags, or bundle branches for collection.
To help residents properly dispose of household materials, the city will also host free drop-off events this fall for electronics, hazardous chemicals, and document shredding.
The city’s updated guidelines are part of an ongoing effort to improve service efficiency, meet environmental standards, and promote community cleanliness. Full details are available on the City of Palmetto’s website.
