A new affordable housing development is planned for the Palmetto Community Redevelopment Agency area, with 20 townhomes expected to provide additional homeownership opportunities for local families and essential workers.
Manatee County Habitat for Humanity is planning the development near 11th Street West and 8th Avenue West in Palmetto. The project is intended to expand the availability of affordable owner-occupied housing within the community.
The organization recently received a $750,000 state grant to help prepare the property for construction. The funding will support infrastructure improvements needed for the development, including roads, water and sewer lines.
Once completed, the 20-unit townhome community is expected to provide a pathway to homeownership for qualifying local residents. The project is particularly aimed at helping working families and essential workers, including teachers, nurses and first responders, who may face challenges finding affordable housing in the area.
The development is part of ongoing efforts within the Palmetto CRA to encourage neighborhood investment and increase housing opportunities for residents.
Groundbreaking for the Habitat for Humanity project is expected within the next year.
