Palmetto Police Department Opens Registration for 2026 Citizens Academy
The Palmetto Police Department has announced registration for its 2026 Citizens Academy, a free eight-week program designed to give residents an inside look at local law enforcement operations.
The academy is open to Palmetto residents who want to learn more about how the department serves the community, as well as individuals interested in exploring a future career in law enforcement. Participants will have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of police operations, department policies, community engagement efforts and the path to becoming a police officer.
Throughout the course, attendees will learn about criminal investigations, patrol operations, criminal statutes, use-of-force policies and community policing practices. The program is intended to strengthen relationships between residents and law enforcement while providing a behind-the-scenes look at the daily responsibilities of police officers.
The Citizens Academy begins Aug. 6, 2026, and continues weekly through Sept. 24, 2026. Enrollment is open through July 31.
Residents interested in participating can contact the Palmetto Police Department to register. The program is offered at no cost and provides an opportunity for community members to learn, engage and partner with their local police department.
