The Parrish Civic Association is preparing to launch a new Military Banner Program honoring fallen heroes, veterans and active-duty members of the U.S. military throughout the Parrish community.
The association recently received funding from Manatee County to establish the program, which will place commemorative banners along Fort Hamer Road between Erie Road and U.S. 301.
Organizers plan to officially unveil the program in conjunction with the Parrish Veterans Day Parade. The association hopes to have approximately 10 to 12 banners installed in time for the event, providing the first group of local military members and veterans to be recognized through the new initiative.
Applications are now being accepted from individuals and families interested in having a service member honored. There is no charge to participate in the program. Applicants will be vetted to confirm the honoree’s military service before a banner is approved.
According to program information, banners will feature the honoree’s name and submitted photograph. Applicants must have permission to use the photograph and are asked not to provide sensitive military or security information.
The program will operate on a first-come, first-vetted, first-served basis, with a limited number of banners placed each year. Installation timing and locations will be determined by the Parrish Civic Association.
Banners may remain on display for up to two years. Those that remain in good condition will be returned to the families following their time in the program.
