Parrish Woman Dies in Crash After Running Red Light, FHP Says
A 71-year-old woman from Parrish died Friday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Rutland Road and State Road 43, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred just before 1:20 p.m. when the woman was driving west on Rutland Road in the left turn lane. Authorities say she failed to stop at a red light and entered the intersection, where her vehicle was struck on the driver's side by a car heading north on SR 43.
The impact left the woman with serious injuries. She was transported to South Shore Hospital in Sun City Center, where she later died.
The other driver, a 34-year-old man from Palmetto, was not injured in the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
